Dipsomaniacs Deliver the Goods!
George T. Parsons | Nevada City, CA | 04/02/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Dipsomaniacs Reverb No Hollowness (Progess, P.O.Box 5120, 7002 Trondheim, Norway.http://records.no/progess/) From 1998, When I first listened to this I had favorite songs. I had favorite songs when I first listened to the Beatles Revolver for the first time; but I soon came to love them all. Led by young Øyvind Holm of Trondheim, Norway; Dipsomaniacs is a band with vision. Though I'm not sure what that vision is, it has something to do with reminding the world and themselves of how transcendentally illuminating and fun pop music can be. I think this is the sort of thing Robert Pollard reaches for and gets one out of 20 times. New wings from old ashes, and dust of late 60's psychedelic genius rock, back when each act upped the ante for awhile. But not tired or out of any other time than now, but maybe the kind of now, that lasts forever or at least a long time. Call it classic or timeless if you will. This will sound as good as it does now, 35 years from now, just like those beautiful ghosts from 35 years ago still ring through and inform renewed generations of hopeful fools and dreaming-out-loud lunatics. What they sound like is sort of a young John Lennon fronting Guided By Voices at the Byrds house, sometime in the summer of 1967, or the just the Norwegian answer to Bevis Frond's best and of course those Green Pajamaed Seattle fellows too. Hopeful, and precociously accomplished, Øyvind and company play some of the best rock and roll music on the planet earth."
