CD Reviews

Blue -eyed soul starts here
John W. Butler, Jr. | Spring, Texas USA | 07/14/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD is a must have for fans of soul music. The Boogie Kings are legendary in Louisiana and parts south, and the rest of the world should check them out to see why. Gee Gee Shinn and Jerry ("Count Jackson") LaCroix are unforgettable vocalists, the horn section is rich and warm, and the rhythm section is solid. Listen to "Cryin' Man", the electrifying "Funny How Time Slips Away", and the tender ballad "Lonely Room" for a taste of what these fine musicians can do. If you can locate them, try to get their following records on the Montel label. "Blue Eyed Soul" is equally as good as this record, and "Live at the Bamboo Hut" is the best live record you will ever hear. This band continues to perform excellent music today, and their newer releases are available. But during the 1960s with the Montel sessions they were at their peak, and you shouldn't let another day go by without hearing why."
