CD ReviewsThe Best Album of 2006 H. C. Freeman | Southeast Tennessee | 07/06/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "You probably aren't familiar with the Bluejays unless you frequent the music dives in Atlanta but do yourself a favor and trash your hip-hop records and anything else that the music industry "suits" tell you is what you should be listening to. Call it Alt-country, rockabilly, country rock, whatever label you want but THIS album is what you should be listening to and wearing your stereo out with. I haven't been able to get it out of the cd player since it hit my door. I'm familiar with almost all of these songs, having heard the band live a number of times in the last few years. But this cd just blew me away. There isn't a bad tune in the bunch. And the production and mix are near perfect. You can hear every note of Jim's twangy lead guitar weaving in and out around Jay's lead vocals and bass, John's rhythm guitar and Matt's punctuating drum licks. On the tunes where the other members take over lead vocals, this band still kicks butt. What are you waiting for?.........ORDER IT NOW! and an extra copy for a friend." A GREAT Listen Jill Furcron | 05/30/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "I could easily listen to "a hundred songs" by this group! This is a GREAT gift CD; everyone - from your kids to your grandparents, will find something they like, guaranteed.
There are whiffs of Ricky Nelson and Buck Owens and others in the genre, but don't "pigeonhole" The Bluejays! The original tunes are clever, catchy and fresh. "No Reason" is funky-bluesy, and anyone who doesn't want to swing to "Devil in Disguise" has a missing circuit in their rhythm section! Guys, play "Anytime" for your girl and she'll be yours forever. Two of the songs deserve special recognition: "This Town" is hauntingly beautiful, and the lyrics to "Back Against the Wall" are haunting. Period. Do yourself a favor and get a copy of "A Hundred Songs" and send one to a pal. I can't wait to catch these guys live!" |
