CD Reviews

THE Astral Projection, not Astral Projection
Jase Wells | San Francisco, CA United States | 12/30/2000
(1 out of 5 stars)

"As the original release date for this item would probably suggest, don't confuse this CD for the contemporary trance/dance music of Astral Projection. Instead, this is "The" Astral Projection, and the music is completely different: it's the kind of simple and mellow music you'd expect to be playing in the past, back when lava lamps were new, not "retro." If you're feeling nostalgic for 8-track tapes, try it: you might enjoy this CD. But if you landed here looking for club music, this isn't it."
Astral Scene~ The Astral Projection

"Do not buy this album believing it to be by the Israeli dance/trance duo, Astral Projection. It has nothing to do with them. It is by THE Astral Projection and I have reported it to Amazon as their search criteria is very misleading."
Sixties Sunshine

(2 out of 5 stars)

"Looking for a gentle reminder of the sort of pop that sixties parents endorsed? Here we have a well produced and competently played middle-of-the-road sixties pop confection. Pleasant, if unmemorable, songs with harmonies, strings, workman-like brass charts and saccharine sentiments. Sometimes re-issue labels sneak the word 'psychedelic' into the mix for albums like this, presumably to lure "Nuggets" fans: there is nothing here more dangerous than a lace cravat. Admittedly the final track mentions 'going insane' and has some vaguely 'acid' effects, but it is all very gentle. Fans of the Mamas and Papas or The Partridge Family might enjoy."
