Synopsis

Product Description
What does it sound like when the energy of punk builds into a wave of power and smashes on the shores of melody? The 99ers, that's what. One part Ramones, one part Jan and Dean, and a whole lot of Midwestern attitude, The 99ers have long been wowing audiences with their catchy melodies and short, punchy songs. If you want to know what it would sound like if the Clash morphed with the Beach Boys, or if Blondie had gigged at Santa Monica pier instead of CBGB's, then take a listen to AND THEN THERE WAS SURF! With Molly Holley's vocals riding the crest of the surf, you'll find yourself bopping and beachcombing to 18 tracks of joyful pop punk and shouting 'Go Surfers!'.

CD Reviews

Just as great as "Stand Up & Surf"

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a brilliant follow up to The 99ers first album with the same infectious sense of fun and energy. These guys really believe in value for money cos they give us another 18 tracks, just like they did with the first. It's the same mix of catchy originals about the band members' favorite things (like Shonen Knife, fish and chips, dee dee ramone, various dj's and an English soccer team) with great riffs, hooks galore and terrific Blondie-like vocals. Then there's some choice cover songs (The Honeys, Shangri La's, Tommy Roe, Barracudas etc.). I couldn't really find a bad track on here. They've really nailed the Ramones energy and combined it with Beach Boys type melody. So if you like The Ramones, Beach Boys, Queers etc. - and bands that don't take themselves too seriously - you'll love this."
