The Sound of Beyond
Craptacular. | CO | 10/11/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In his interview with Bill Moyers way back when, comparative mythologist Joseph Campbell stated that it was a poor choice by the Christian churches to hold services in English. He thought that the function of Latin was of great psychological importance: taking you out of there here and now, and attaching you to something both ancient and beyond.

Albums like Tetsu Inoue's Inland and Yolo provide that kind of psychological escape so wonderfully. There is nothing to cling to: no predictable rhythms, no beats, etc; fluid states of impermanence to appreciate as they come and go. With great production level, Tetsu creates beautifully divine & transient textures of sound. In many ways the tracks are soothingly linked together; so much so, that you might not know when one begins and another ends. Occasional clicks are there, swimming in the echoes of the ambient soundbath. The atmospheres created in this disk are truly exhilarating, and there are no rough edges or abruptions.

Highly recommended:

-For appreciators of sound and imagination

-Those days when you just feel like laying in bed and zoning out

-With (the media player) Winamp 5's visualization full-screened"

"This is very serene ambient music - don't expect rhythms or melodies, just subtly shifting washes of sound with the occasional background burble. I've been listening to a lot of ambient music lately, and keep coming back to this one - there is enough movement in the textures to keep it interesting if you're paying attention, and the overall effect is peace and beauty."
