"On browsing through the CDs for sale, it would be easy for an adult C/Z fan to pass over this CD and dismiss it as one only for children. I did pass it up, my husband did not. In truth, it was produced by Terrance Simien to promote better understanding of the Creole culture to the children in Southwest Louisiana. However, it is not only the children who can learn from the CD and enjoy Terrance's music. As well as promoting a dialogue between children and their parents, grandparents and school teachers, it has much to offer those people learning about C/Z culture and trying to understand the differences, or I should say, similarities. Each song is preceded by a narration explaining some aspect of the culture, Mardi Gras, House Parties, Trail Ride, Food and the musical heros such as Amede Ardoin and Clifton Chenier and then the song reflects that subject. It is clear, it is fun and it is informative.Terrance Simien is a wonderful ambassador for his culture, not only in the quality of his music but in his work to promote it and its music. He and his wife Cynthia have been working tirelessly to get a C/Z category listed in the Grammy Awards. His job is a tough one because although zydeco music is popular, the Creole language is disappearing faster than Cajun , so this is an important CD in getting Creole children to understand that Creole French is part of their heritage. My personal reason for liking the CD is that I can listen to Terrance play some of my favourite Creole songs. I also love the cover artwork by Vergie Banks. There is a five page study guide with the CD, so there will be no excuse for not increasing your knowledge of Creole music and culture."
