Go Get It! Don't count on sleepy U.S. radio or a U.S. tour
Drapetomaniac | New York, New York | 12/11/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"No you won't hear her at random on any style radio station in the US, despite being from LA and going to school at Berkeley. (No mistaking though -- she's has definitely a French identity, the child of Haitian parents and resident of Paris since 1990)Nor does Teri Moise have US tour dates. .... Nevertheless...It doesn't get any better than Teri Moise, an artist who writes, composes because she feels it. As if..."If it becomes a hit, so be it. If not, that is still my best out there." Sade has the same disposition. What's refreshing about this music is that even though it may be categorized as French R&B or folk/pop, as I have heard, it is not remotely a plastic pressed copy of typical r&B or pop formula. Although I like some of Les Nubians or Native, these seem a little closer to the formulaic. You feel this music, too. And you feel her lyrics. Glad she has a concern for her art here. And, oh my goodness, the voice to play a funky range of emotions from joy to anger to melancholy. In fact, Teri Moise has said that she writes best when sad or annoyed. When she's happy she takes a walk outside. In short, we all benefit from her bad days and she admits that she does too through writing.Go get this album. And if you don't have the first album, self-titled, you gotta gotta get it too. Again, tight music, tight lyrics, and the voice that carries much more than your biggest Samsonite. ...."
Captivating!

"Why are you still sitting here reading this review? You should be moving heaven and earth to get this album and once you get it, do not let it out of your sight because your friends will want it, make them get their own copy. One needs not speak French(fortunately I speak it fluently) to be trasported by Teri's music and the depth her music carries is universal to all who hears it regarless of their background. She writes from the heart and one feels that this talented, liquid-voiced French chanteuse has seen a lot. Each song from her 2eme album is a gift to behold. Deserving of particular attention is the number 9 track "Deja" on that she asks "Qui a tourne cette page blanche? il me restait des mots a ecrire":Who has turned the page? I still have a lot of words to write" and "Les coeurs voulaient battre les mechants mais la peur fait qu'on devienne l'un d'eux":"Sometimes in your heart you want to fight evil but fear makes you join them against yourself just to survive". Haunting. The second track, "Il sait" the 3rd "Star" , the fourth, the fifth, the sixth...Oh,you get the idea, every single song is a joy, pain, a celebartion of life and hope, and her soulful voice carries her music splendidly. I'm afraid I'm going to burn my CD from over-playing it, I am never without it, the sadder I am, the more I listen to it, i carry it with me everywhere I go. The guy you see sitting in traffic next to you on the road singing with a wide smile on his face or tears in his eyes is me. All my emotions come pouring forth when I listen to this woman. Thank you Teri. Now, when are we going to see a new album? you still have a great deal to say, let's hear it, girl. I bought your second album in Paris, If I have to drop everything and go there now to get the next one, I'll gladly do it and say Vive la France. Now French radio and other radio stations everywhere hear this: Play This Woman's Music. She deserves a large following.
Teri Moise is a godsend to the music world. 'Nough said."

"This is a beautiful, lyrical CD. Her voice is perfect and the music gets better every time you listen. Highly recommended. ENJOY!"
