CD Reviews

I couldn't believe my eyes!

"For years and years I had been hoping that "Swings in High Stereo" would be released on CD. As I was surfing on Amazon the other night I entered Ted Heath's name and I was ASTOUNDED when this title came up!!! I have been listening to this record since 1958 when it was first issued on LP so it has had a profound impact on my own musicianship. This is truly one of my all time favorites from the 'big band' era. One of the best tenor sax solos I've ever heard is in "Boomsie"---it's short, forceful, full of melody, full of tone and swings like mad!

This was recorded fifty one years ago. You would assume it would be painful to hear. NOT SO!! Whoever was in charge of the remaster was extremely faithful to the original recording and made it even better with his use of digital technology. It is an absolute JOY to hear. It also is not old fashioned big band. Rather, I would say it is timeless. (Can you sense my enthusiasm??) It is a dream come true that I finally have this on CD!

In conclusion, I believe this to be one of the best ever big band records. No matter the era in which it was recorded, it contains great arrangements, excellent musicians, it's a really good recording and , most of all, it swings its a-- off! If you LOVE big band music, you NEED to buy this! It's not cheap as it is an import but it's worth every dollar! Enjoy!"
