Synopsis

Album Description
Over one year in the making, Tanya Janca's latest release, "From Blunt and Obnoxious To Soft and Sweet, I am Tanya Janca", is sure to raise eyebrows. At over 55 minutes in length, with 12 new original songs and amazing artwork detailing her lyrics, this cross-breeding of punk-rock and soul-folk is both a piece of visual and musical art. Tanya Janca wins over audiences with spicy riffs and exuberant energy. Songs seem to speak directly to each listener. Blunt and political, but still very poetic, Tanya draws a picture audiences can see. Speaking without reservation, Tanya shows us that being a bit "rough around the edges" can be beautiful. Her new album features both studio-produced, multi-layered, perfected art, and live-off-the-floor raw emotion.

CD Reviews

Not Ani any more... but then, neither is Ani!
IPrice (Mac Guy) | 08/23/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"It is true, people have always compared Tanya Janca favourably to Ani DiFranco, but where the righteous babe may have lost her edge in recent releases, Tanya has lost none of hers'. If you are an adherent to Michael Moore's political bent, then the tune; "Bush Can Eat My Bush" alone is worth the price of this CD! Indeed, with so many artists now lining up on the Left, none of their opportunistic writings match this song for the clarity of the point made. This CD also has some pop-ish items on it, but the lyrics are always incisive and the playing crisp. For a typical indie release, the overall package is of professional quality and the liner artwork is amazing! In all, a worthwhile buy."
Blunt description of some sweet tunes

"innovative and strums-on, tanya creates her own thin and almost undistinguishable line between folk and punk. politically shock-provoking, emotionally gut-clenching lyrics and sound go down, at times, smoothly and at others roughly - but always leaving a bittersweet taste behind. tanya j is only meant for wise listeners up for a good challenge."

"This is a CD for every women who has ever felt pissed off, or used, or angry! It's also full of REALLY sappy love songs too! Nice melodies, weird guitar riffs, and blunt, political lyrics. She really has allot to say. I have a copy at home. :)"
