CD ReviewsI'm on an island..... DW_218 | NY | 03/03/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Or atleast, I feel like I am on one! This album actually makes me feel like I am in Cape Verde. This is a beautiful acoustic recording with Tete singing, and her band member, Mario Lucio, accompanying her on guitar. Tete is a lead vocalist of the popular Cape Verdean band, Simentera. I heard that band on an African music compilation and I fell in love with her voice. I am so pleased that she has released a solo CD, available in the U.S. She sings of love, sodade(longing, yearning),& her passion for her homeland. The Cd comes with a booklet, that gives a biography of Tete, as well as all the lyrics in Portuguese and Creole. The lyrics are also translated into English. Tete has such a warm voice that takes you to wherever or whatever she is singing about. She sings mornas, coladeras, and other Cape Verdean rhythms. This is not music to dance to, but to make one feel at peace and serene. I literally feel like I am on a faraway paradise, where I can see the sea and the birds flying. I highly recommend this Cd."
