Slatkin knows how to capture romanticism

"Slatkin does a beautiful job of creating the wintery feel for the first symphony. Every time I listen to mvt. #1, I just imagine kids running down the stairs on Christmas while the snow is falling outside.Francesca da Rimini on the other hand is the antithesis of Symphony #1. FdR is a powerful, thundering, almost evil piece of work. Again Slatkin does a good job of painting the picture, and in this case telling the story of Francesca da Rimini.Not Tchaikovskys most popular works, but I'm sure you will be incredibly surprised by this one. It will be high on your CD rotation."
