"Many compilations of famous symphonies tend to have 2 - 3 minute samplers of many works; usually by a few authors such as Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, etc... This set instead has whole movements of 16 different symphonies from composers such as those listed above and other such as Bizet, Berlioz and Mahler. The orchestration is quite nice and the sound is very crisp and clear. The pieces themselves sample the emotional range from dramatic to tragic to lively to slow-paced. The picks include famous ones such as the choral movement of Beethoven's 9th to less well known ones such as Bizet's Symphony in C. Altogether, this set makes for good listening and provides about two hours of good music."
