A Fantastic Symphony

"Plasson hits the mark with this 1991 recording of the famouse Symphonie Fantastique. He gives us a very "French" interpretation of Berlioz' ground breaking tone poem about drugs and love in the early 19th century.

Also included is are fine performances of Harold in Italy, Le Corsaire Overture, and three other infrequently performed overtures -- Waverly, Le Carnival Romain and Benvenuto Cellini.

My only issue with this recording is that I found the sound somewhat "light" -- lacking in dynamic range you usually expect from a direct to digital recording. Howerver, at it's current price of $9, this 2-CD set is a recommended buy and a welcome addition to any collection."
