Synopsis

Album Description
Sylvain Luc, a child prodigy from a family of traditional gypsy musicians from Bayonne, France, capital of the Basque Country (Luc is of Basque descent?an indigenous people native to the western end of the Pyrenees), has received much praised in the press for his "reflective, delicate quality and?close attention to tone" (Acoustic Guitar). Five years ago, Sylvain Luc was formally introduced to America through Duet, the masterful and beautiful guitar duo album with the phenomenal Biréli Lagrène. Luc has also worked with major artists such as Al Jarreau, Michel Legrand, Elvin Jones, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Francoise Hardy, John McLaughlin, Richard Galliano, among many others. On Ambre, Luc ventures out solo to explore gentle moods and sensuous sounds, creating warm and beautiful landscapes rich with lyrical guitar lines and ethereal chord textures. He adds bass lines and percussions by recording in multi-track with multiple guitars: nylon, steel, and the rarely heard fretless guitar. Luc shines on a broad repertoire of music: innovative originals, traditional Basque folk songs, and unique takes on standards such as "A Child Is Born", "All Blues", and "Shadow of Your Smile".

CD Reviews

Beautiful Music By A Master
Keith | LA, California | 07/15/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"When Sylvain Luc picks up the guitar, he seems to breathe fresh life into the instrument. This is probably due to the fact that like all great musicians, the music is inside him and the guitar is just a means of getting it out for the rest of the world to hear. On this album, Sylvain is in perhaps my favorite setting for him playing solo and sometimes with him overdubbing some rhythmic or bass work on his guitar. There is nothing bad about this album that i can find to tell you. If you like his interesting approach to jazz, this is a must. He is one of the greatest living musicians today. Also, check out his other albums especially "Trio Sud"."
