Synopsis

Album Description
One of the most important films of the '50s, Sweet Smell Of Success boasts two soundtracks: the first was one of the great Jazz scores written and performed by the Chico Hamilton Quintet; the other, a furious orchestral score by the masterful Elmer Bernstein. These albums were released separately in 1957 but are combined here on a single CD in digital format for the first time. Sweet Smell Of Success is memorable for the vicious performances of Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis and its uniquely nasty view of the tough underbelly of New York fifty years ago. El. 2008.

CD Reviews

Satori on CD
Jonathan Green | Los Angeles, CA USA | 04/20/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I don't believe there has ever been an album in any format offering both the orchestral score and the Chico Hamilton sides from this brilliant music. Took half a century, but it's well worth the wait.

A marvelous set."

"One of Elmer's Bernstein's brilliant 50's jazz scores finally comes to cd along with Chico Hamilton's Jazz Quartet session pieces from the same movie. A rare treat to have these 2 albums together on 1 cd for the 1st time. The sound is very good considering the sources and the memories culled from the brutally straightforward film make one want to see it again. Great stuff all 'round."
Two soundtracks, one film

"For the first time the Chico Hamilton and the Elmer Bernstein soundtrack for this classic movie on one album. Especially the latter one is essential in the movie, because it underscores the fast paced en frenetic tempo of a city that never sleeps. For those people who collect soundtracks and never could lay their hands on the vinyl this cd is a must have. Furthermore: the sound is superb. Very nice."
