CD Reviews

A REAL SURPRISE!
John Geneve | LA, CA | 01/05/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is one freaky little record. Produced by the great Lee Hazelwood, I found this on vinyl in a cut-out bin in the 80s. I bought it more as a joke and found myself really digging it. As years have gone on, with my LP copy unfortunately given away to some ungrateful friend who sold it :( I found myself actively searching for another copy of this. Well, I had no idea that this LP was so scarce with copies selling between $50.00 and $100.00 on ebay. Also, being a vinyl hound who digs through tons of bins weekly, I can say that I've never found a copy even in Los Angeles.

Suffice it to say that I was pretty stoked to find this rereleased on CD. Such an obscure rarity, this was probably dismissed as a bandwagon psychedelic release in its day with allusions to too many "hip" topics. True, the title track is pretty close to a rip on In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida with its catchy riff, extended solos and 10,000+ minute running time (okay, I'm exaggerating...) and some of the other songs are a bit self-conscious. But, hearing this today is definitely a breath of fresh air. It's completely obscure with no songs turning up (to my knowledge anyway) on any Nuggets-type or Rhino-like releases and it comes off as a real psychedelic treat.

If you dig Sagitarius and Love and other 60's Psych, I would recommend this to you. It's getting hard to find even on CD, it seems! You better grab one while you can... and FREE UP!"
