Synopsis

Product Description
Born in the Mile End district of Montreal, Surface of Atlantic was conceived as an outlet for musical experimentation. This approach led to many jam sessions holed up in a small basement improvising hours upon hours of musical explorations, always favoring catchy yet distinctive melodies. In 2005 the band released the 'Fairmount Avenue EP' and began touring the Montreal area, building a stable fan base and generating enthusiastic reviews. In July 2006, the band entered the studio with engineer and producer Francis Perron to craft their first LP, 'Ephemeral as we Speak'. The eagerly anticipated album is finally available for sale in independent music stores and is distributed online via the Orchard (amazon, itunes, cdbaby...).

CD Reviews

Atlantic breakers
Arthur Dooley | N Wales | 06/22/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"As someone domiciled in the UK I came to this record through the excellent San Francisco based SOMA FM Internet music station. Following their lead to the band's MYspace page I quickly became intrigued and intoxicated by what I was hearing. A most engaging mellow mix of ambient and rock sounds which suggested the band had been influenced by our leading exponents of dreamy 21st century psychedelia Indie music...Radiohead and Keane.

The US influence appears to be the Smashing Pumpkins. Surface of Atlantic appear to be hardly known even in North America. Given the quality of what's on offer this is truly mystifying ?

A beautiful swirling shimmering wall of sound which washes over the listener like an Atlantic wave....powerful !"
