Magic? It's Rock-N-Roll!
Tombstone Tim | NYC, USA | 10/05/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

""If you don't like the Supersuckers, you don't like Rock-N-Roll" So said Lemmy Kilmister of 'Motorhead.'

How true these words are, and the Supersuckers have been keeping that statement accurate for over 15 years.

I received this jewel "Live at the Magic Bag, Ferndale, MI" early today, thanks to a diligent postal person, and I can't heap enough evil praise on it.

First, it's the Supersuckers!

Second, it's a "live" Rock-N-Roll Cd from the Supersuckers!

Third....do you really need a third?

If you've heard/seen the Supersuckers, you really don't need another reason to establish purchase worthiness. They never disappoint in the studio and they absolutely kill live, but feeling generous, I'll provide a third reason.

"22 classic Supersuckers Songs," carefully selected from "The Smoke Of Hell", "La Mano Cornuda", "Must've Been High", "The Sacrilicious Sounds of the Supersuckers", "The Evil Powers of Rock-N-Roll", "M.F.B.T." and if that weren't enough, their hellishly great versions of Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak" and the Coasters "That is Rock-N-Roll."

What is this Cd? It's Rock-N-Roll! Delivered "Live" by one of the Greatest, most underated bands of today, Supersuckers. Although, with all those killer songs played and recorded that November 11th Eve at the "Magic Bag", I think there was definitely some magic happenin' in Ferndale.

How to Maximize Your Rock Count

"The Supersuckers are even crazier live than on their studio albums, and this disc is a great substitute for being there in person. Even though I've yet to see the Supersuckers live, I have been to the venue where this was recorded (in the Detroit area). It's a little small, so this disc is low on raucous crowd noise, but the band rocks out with ferocity and Eddie Spaghetti's stage banter is some of the kookiest in the business. The band's beer-soaked riffs and bluesy grooves totally rock the house, especially after a warm-up period at the start of the set. The highlights of this show are brutal renditions of "The Evil Powers of Rock n' Roll," "Creepy Jackalope Eye" and "My Victim." The middle of the set slows down a little, not withstanding some solo work by new drummer Mike Murderburger (who by the way has kept the Supersuckers rolling along without delay). But rest assured that the band quickly returns to full power with fierce takes on "Fisticuffs" and "How to Maximize Your Kill Count." Also check out the killer cover of "Jailbreak" in the fake encore. These guys may not be world famous (yet), but they're perfect for in-the-know fans who like rollicking songs about beer fights and killing people. [~doomsdayer520~]"

"When I want to listen to one of my favorite live recordings from one of my favorite bands,I pop this little gem in. What an awesome set! This set has all of your (and mine) favorite Supersuckers tunes! Hell this is worth the price of admission for the cover of Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak alone! Singer Eddie Spaghetti drops litte nuggets of pure rock ingenuity on this here album as well. Listen to the whole album in it's entirety, and you will here why the Supersuckers are the Rock n Roll world's gift to all of us-the PEOPLE OF IMPECCABLE TASTE!"
