CD Reviews

Suite of Gods - Rick Wakeman
Kevin Wood | Salt Lake City, Utah | 01/27/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have looked for this CD for years, after wearing out a used copy on cassette. This is a great example of what they mean when they say 'Rock Opera'. If you are amongst the elite few fans of Rick Wakeman's 70's albums 'Journey To The Center Of The Earth' or ' Myths And Legends of King Arthur And The Knights Of The Round Table', you will want to have this recording to compliment your Rick Wakeman treasury. 'Suite Of Gods' features classic Wakeman material shawcasing Wakeman's lush keyboard arrangements, full classical accompaniment by a symphonic orchestra, and beautiful vocals from skilled opera masters. This is an album you can sit and absorb on a quiet night, with a few candles to set an old world ambience. If you like your 'Rock Opera' to have melody, story lines, and meaning, you will enjoy and cherish this rare recording. Great Listening!"
A journey into the Greek and Roman Mithology

"This Masterpiece is part of the RICK WAKEMAN NEW AGE COLLECTION, and tells us about some of the most popular greek and roman myths, like Pandora's Box, Oedipus of Thebes, The voyage of Ulysses, etc. It combines modern music technology with classical vocal interpretation (by Ramon Remedios), all "spiced" with the distinctive Wakeman's style. That's what I call a CLASSIC. I think all Wakeman's fans should listen to this album and after that, I'm sure they won't rest until they get it."
A Creative Mix that Works

"Rick Wakeman is prolific, and the quality of his material spans from very weak to breath taking. This album is one of his stronger outings since his early Six Wives/Journey/King Arthur days. Following a pattern of some other albums (such as Criminal Record), shorter tracks lead up to a final epic number. The vocal melodies are a little weak to be a good showcase Remedios' operatic abilities; and don't look for any of the soaring sync solos. But overall, it is an impressive, creative, wonderful work."
