CD Reviews

Japan's Sugar Plant gets sweeter
George T. Parsons | Nevada City, CA | 06/16/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I was lucky enough to meet and talk to Shin'ichi Ogawa, and Chinatsu Shoyama; they are lovely folks and make some gorgeous modern pop music. Dreamy lazy summer evenings of sound and song. This album is much more soul-pop influenced than their previous Galaxie 500 soaked space pop outings, but this is no less melodic, sweetly melancholic, or beguiling. Let's hope it eventually gets a stateside release, because the price is a bit steep, but if you love this sort of pop as much as I do; you need this. It's one of those records you can set on repeat for an afternoon and not get bored. Probably their finest work ever."
Mellow... very mellow... too mellow.
Roy Sablosky | takoma park, md USA | 04/08/2004
(2 out of 5 stars)

"These days one might say it's like Kruder and Dorfmeister, but not as good. 20 years ago one could have said it's like 'Future Games'-era Fleetwood Mac, but not as good. Since it's from Japan, you wait for some sort of edginess or exoticism to poke out from between the comfy cushions, but it never does. If you really want something this laid back, try 'Quiet is the New Loud" by Kings of Convenience instead of this expensive import."
An Epic Album
A. Balest | LA, USA | 01/05/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is an epic album. Sugar Plant offers up the most chill, Psychedelic and beautiful album for our ear's. A pleasure to listen to any time of the day and pretty much any occasion. This is a must have for people who like beautiful mello music with female vocals and spaced out instruments!

Peace..."
