Synopsis

Album Description
Excellent two CD compilation from Paul Weller's post-Jam project, The Style Council. With keyboardist Mick Talbot at his side (later joined by Steve White on drums and D.C. Lee on vocals), TSC were a mixture of Soul, Pop, Jazz and any other styles of music that struck Weller's fancy. Although not as successful as the Jam or Paul Weller's solo career, TSC were an unpredictable band capable of absolute greatness, as this 35 track collection proves. Featuring singles, B-sides, album tracks and more, Sweet Loving Ways is an excellent introduction to this '80s band. Includes 'Speak Like A Child', 'My Ever Changing Moods', 'Shout To The Top', 'You're The Best Thing' and many more. Spectrum.

CD Reviews

The Style Council vs. The Jam
I. Puente | Washington, DC USA | 11/02/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have rarely heard of a Style Council fan who did not also like the Jam. But apparently the inverse is not always true. Apparently, there are many Jam fans who don't like TSC and still go to great lengths to ridicule the band. The Style Council and the Jam were both bands framed around social class. One at odds with the other. This is the conflict for some listeners. I think Paul was challenging the old Jam fans to grow up a bit and some couldn't and apparently still can't based on the prior review. In the end, musical comparisons of the Style Council to the Jam are pointless. Both are great bands in their own way. Mostly, I admire Paul for trying different ways (musically and vocally) to express his concepts and ideas and being successful at it. Interesting thing is that people are still talking about this 20 years later."
