CD Reviews

Mediocre release from a brilliant band
06/23/2003
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Strung Out is a brilliant band, of which I have had the pleasure of witnessing live countless countless times. Sadly I think this live record is disappointing for the older Strung Out fans. The musicianship on this one is tight and lives up to the band's technical reputation well. No real disappointments there. However there are moments on this live recording that just sound "forced" and even goofy at times. Jason drops way too many "F-bombs", sounding like a 13 year old kid with tourette's syndrome. I don't know, this record just sounds engineered for the 12 year old punk kid just discovering Strung Out. The packaging / artwork is a little bit weak too- reminds me of a wanna-be Misfits album jacket. The swearing seriously does not offend me, but it makes a technical and mature band come accross goofy to the mature listener.I think this is still worth owning if you're an older fan like myself, but it leaves me fearing this band is temporarily ignoring it's roots maybe in efforts to bring in a new crop of kids?? Whatever the case, Strung Out is a band with great power and potential. I'd personally like to see them expand on the tracks of Elements of Sonic Defiance and ultimately leave the limited label "skate-punk" in the dust."
I Absolutely Love It

"Strung Out does it again. Most live albums have good vocal and bad music or vise versa. But in the case it is perfect. The bands playing has no flaws. It has over 20 songs so your getting your money worth. No only does it have some of their greatest stuff they have a mindblowing cover of Ozzy Osbournes "Bark At The Moon" which even an Ozzy fan could appreciate. I say if you buy one album this year make is Strung Out Live In A Dive."
Its about time they released a live album!

"A great album capturing what Strung Out are all about. The energy they have live is really captured on this album. Some strange omissions though, like Six Feet, Fire Cracker & Mind of My Own. The songs on the cd works really well, with a few reworked songs. Even if you have a mild interest in punk rock this is a must have album."
