Nice Incident
11/01/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Disk 1: Cedar Laurels, Joyful Sound > Jam > Orange Blossom Special, Ten Miles to Tulsa, This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) > Big Rock Jam > Voodoo Chile > ShineDisk 2: Johnny Cash > Roundabout > Sand Dollar > Texas > Sand Dollar > Texas > Johnny Cash, E: Howard The On The Road (OTR) series is an amazingly ambitious and successful project. I am thrilled with all four of the ones I purchased (4/17/02, 4/19/02, 6/19/02, and 6/27/20). I may have hometown bias, but I liked the Little Rock show better than the other four, although parts of the Birmingham incident were inspired. The sound quality on all of the CDs is superb. The band has really evolved (compared to their earlier live albums "Carnival 99 and "String Cheese Incident Live" and some older bootlegs I have). IMHO, they are the best band touring today. With 78 shows in 2002, the band is real tight and the range and intensity of the jamming keeps you coming back for more. The covers were great: a classic Orange Blossom Special, some very nice Talking Heads (This Must Be The Place), an impeccable version of Yes' Roundabout (played for first time in two years) and Jim Hendrix's Voodoo Chile. A huge Howard closed out the incident. I highly recommend it. Note: set lists and reviews of all String Cheese Incidents are available at the FriendsOfCheese website."
