SHOULD OF BEEN MASSIVE!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Stray really should of made it big time. They had a great singer Steve Gadd in a Paul Rogers role and Del Bronham was a great songwriter and guitarist with a penchant for great heavy riffs often played very fast, put that with a cooking rhythm section and you had a world dominating four piece. So what happened? It wasn't for hard work. I saw them play an absolute blinder twice supporting Rush and Kiss in London gaining an encore both times. The reason (i think) is that they were signed to transatlantic records which was a small label specialising in folk. If they had been with, say CBS they would of been up there with Zep or Sabbath. This is a classic first album second only to 'saturday morning pictures' a veritable goldmine of classic songs 'all in your mind''time machine' and there two greatest tracks 'move on' which its jazzy break and the closer 'in reverse/some say' eight minutes of wah-wah driven riffage. It is well produced and is a nice package and worth checking out as an example of early seventies U.K bands who through no fault of their own (and not for the want of trying) missed the proverbial boat!"
