Before You Pull Out The Stinger...
PHILIP S WOLF | SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA. USA | 01/05/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"As the World Trade Center was being attacked on Septmber 11, 2001, Sting was getting ready to take the stage in Italy for this concert. The DVD version of this project goes into detail to explain just what was going through everyone's heads and hearts, on that day, as the world was coming to a horrible ending.

There is a lot of emotion flowing from this night of live music, and this version of the concert produced in the UK, is expanded from the American release with two additional tracks included herein. There are 17 tracks on this edition, and it clocks in just shy of 68 minutes of music.

With favorites from The Police {"Roxanne" "Don't Stand So Close To Me" & "Every Breath You Take"} standing tall, right along side newer Sting gems: {"If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" "Fields Of Gold" & "When We Dance"} this is special music, mature pieces from the master. The sound is a mixture of: jazz, funk, pop, rock, gospel and R & B, and even if you have heard some of this hundreds of times before, all that is presented here comes alive as fresh and new.

Sting, has never followed the path that was expected from him. This is an artist that we will never be able to second quess. I still feel lucky that we have this musician, and we able to hear and enjoy his take on our world through this unique voice.

Again, I cannot call this a pop/rock record, and at the same time this is not to be boxed into a: jazz/progressive style as well. Sting, is something really different, and as he takes something good from many different forms of music, he can twist and shape those stylings into something of his own doing. This artist would have been popular, had he came forth 400 years ago, and hundreds of years from now this music will sound as good as does today.

I am really fond of this live CD, it is my second favorite live offering from Sting, {the impossible to find: "Sting ~ Acoustic Live In Newcastle" is my all-time fave live Sting CD!} We can grow up, and stay young at the very same time as long as Sting is there to decorate our life with his wonderful music.

4.5 Stars!!!"
