Synopsis

Album Description
Admirers of the music of Irving Berlin, the Gershwins, Cole Porter - not to mention other noted American popular-music composers of the Twentieth Century - have often wondered, with impatience, who will carry on the tradition of romantic balladeers, such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Andy Willaims, who have conveyed this music with such style and grace. They no longer need to worry! For, as The New York Postproclaimed: "Steven Davis has arrived!" Mr. Davis is a singer of romantic songs in the tradition of the great balladeers. He has startled those fortunate enough to have already heard him with his interpretations of the popular classic repertoire.

CD Reviews

Steven Davis - a Priceless Find
K. Wormald | 03/20/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I had never heard of Steven Davis when I bought REMEMBER ROMANCE, but I was attracted by its mix of Broadway and classic American composers, so I took a chance. It's now my favorite CD, right up there with Sinatra's SONGS FOR SWINGIN' LOVERS. The title song, "Remember" was used as the theme in the Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan movie, YOU'VE GOT MAIL. Davis has a smooth, mellow voice, and he makes old standards like "Moonlight Serenade" sound fresh and contemporary. I particularly love his rendition of "I Have Dreamed" from THE KING AND I. It was originally a duet, but Davis turns it into a stand-alone love song as beautiful as "Night and Day." His background orchestration is lush, but not overbearing; Davis' voice is at the center of every song. If you are planning a an evening of romance, light a fire, uncork a good wine, and pop in this CD. It will work every time."
