(2 out of 5 stars)

"This CD would serve very well as gentle instrumental background music for a very young child. But if you want a rendition of "Kumbaya" like you used to sing around the campfire, or of "Jesus Loves Me" like the children's choir recordings you remember as a child, this is NOT it! It is purely instrumental - no vocals. It is a series of of gentle instrumental solos, with minimal backup. Sometimes, the instrumentalist is playing his/her own interpretation of each piece, so that it might not always be easy for a child to follow the traditional melodies that folks have come to love. This CD is inexpensive, but if you want a full-bodied, traditional rendition of these songs for older children (or adults), you need to look elsewhere.

When I purchased this CD through Amazon, this site included no image of the cover, no reviews, and no opportunity to listen to snippits of the tracks. Thus, I had no idea that it was oriented to young children, and was expecting something different from what I received. Hence the two-star rating. Had I been looking for soothing music for young children, I would have rated this CD 4 stars (my only concern being that the arrangements for some of the tracks partially mask the traditional tunes by superimposing the instrumentalist's interpretation)."
Great for calming down and putting to sleep.

"I got this as a baby shower present. As pp mentioned there is no vocals, just a calming piano/music rendition of the songs. I've used it since daughter was born to calm her down and put her to sleep. Ours got scratched and I am buying it again."
