CD Reviews

Best Jazz Album of the Decade (90's)
Robert Middleton | Boulder Creek, CA United States | 02/08/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This (aside from several by Miles Davis), is my favorite album in a very large jazz collection. It never fails to entertain and reveal new delights. Pharoh Sanders playing better than on any of his solo albums, Herbie Hancock in fine form, lots of trombones, and those amazing conch shells! It's funky, it swings, it's upbeat, it's mellow (Kind of Blue with a conch shell solo). This album is way ahead of its time and will blow you away. Favorite song: "Morning" by Yusef Lateef. Haunting. If you don't enjoy this, you just don't like music. Other than that, I'm neutral."
Great grooving
Dipak Srinivasan | Columbia, MD United States | 08/02/1999
(4 out of 5 stars)

"THis is a great album to start with with Steve Turre. He plays both the trombone and conch shells (yes, conch shells). The tracks have a very latin feel, and feature many guest artists including John Faddis."
Great Integration of Sounds and Rhythms
Larry Dunn | Toronto, Ontario Canada | 05/18/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Like Robert Middleton, I have a large collection of jazz records and like him, I rate this one as one of my all time favourites. The 'Morning' and 'Rhythmn Within' tracks alone make it worth the money. Jon Faddis, Steve Turre and Herbie Hancock are all at their best here and that is pretty darn good!"
