CD Reviews

An Exceptional CD by an Exceptional Musician
Michael A. Matteo | 08/29/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Some musicians are considered "great" and unless they play "great" on every track it's considered a letdown. Well, Steve Howe is one of those "great" musicians and he doesn't disappoint on this CD. From reading the track listing on the liner notes it looks like this CD is a re-release of previously released material, well, nothing can be further from the truth. With the exception of The Clap and Concerto in D 2nd Movement every song is either new or done differently enough to sound new. On this CD Steve plays through the styles of the great Chet Atkins, Segovia and Les Paul and in my opinion, any person that can play as good as the greats deservers to be considered one of the great. Every song features Steve alone with his guitar, just the man,his music, his electric and accoustic guitars - no backup band. This CD is a must have for any lover of the guitar and Steve Howe fan. Long live the King, and Steve, don't make us wait too long for the next release."
Great stuff

"This is an excellent work by Yes guitarist Steve Howe. If you like Yes and/or Steve Howe, your favorites will probably be here. Excellent musical craftsmanship."
One of Steve's better works, a must have....

"Steve goes back over his career and re-records a lot of his guitar pieces. A lot of these are somewhere else if you have a lot of his albums but quite a few are new and/or done differently. The pieces really sound great. All of them are just Steve and a guitar, no overdubs, no band, just Steve and guitar goodness. The playing is impeccable and the recording is excellent. All the versions are great. He chooses to use different types of guitars for songs like "The Clap" which he plays on an electric guitar, probably a Gretsch or Gibson. If you like Steve's solo guitar pieces then this is a must have. A great testament to Steve and a great idea of his to put this out there. Can't wait for the next volume."
