"Steinberg was one of the great unsung heroes of conducting, in my view. His version of Enigma Variations is very Romantic (in the best sense), just as Elgar himself would have wished (Elgar was far less stoical than many imagine). The Ravel pieces are also excellent. My only quibble is with the very mean playing-time. All these items would have fitted on one CD, leaving the other free for more repertoire! However, at such a good price, it's only a small point."
