CD Reviews

Generic Power Metal.

(3 out of 5 stars)

"2.5 stars. This has got to be one of the biggest drop-offs from one album to another for any band from this celebrated, though increasingly stale genre. Their second album, "Fall Into Madness", was a fantastic example of exciting Power Metal with amazing guitar work which stood out as one of the finest albums in Power Metal, period. They dropped their lead singer/bass player, and replaced his unique presence with capable but incredibly generic automatons which blend but never demand your attention. Not to mention the lyrical content is typical and stagnant. Check out this snippet from the title track: "Catching the dragon/And let it taste the steel/And as the dragon dies its almost unreal" Please!!! Just an ounce, a gram of originality would have been welcome anywhere on this release. But I will be generous and note that not all the guitar work is that bad, it's just entirely forgettable. I do see that Steel Attack now has a 2 CD bundle containing their first two releases. While their first album, "Where Mankind Fails", is not the monolith that is "Fall Into Madness", it is a lot better than their third and most uninteresting release to date. Don't bother with this slice of generic Power Metal."
