CD Reviews

Transcendant Pop

"Apt though the title of this disc may be, don't let it fool you. These boys rock hard, with ice-cream melodies and elaborately built vocal harmonies playing against edgy guitars and tight rhythms to create music that any listener would have to make a concerted, rationalized effort to dislike. Imagine Badfinger collaborating with Cheap Trick under the direction of Brian Wilson, and you might have some idea of what this band is all about: in a word, classic pop/rock rendered faultlessly. And somehow, Star Collector makes it all seem brand-new, like Saturday morning sunshine. Most of the songs clock in under two minutes, but each is fully realized and satisfying. The choruses are stunningly beautiful, and if they don't go on quite long enough, well, that's because (like the best rock n' roll choruses) life doesn't either. Seriously, folks . . . if you need a shot of joy, open your ears to this remarkable piece of work. Fine lyrics, catchy tunes, incredible hooks, great playing, and absolutely gorgeous harmonies. And while I'm not saying you should super-glue it into a spare CD player (as I have), you should definitely have it around for a rainy day. Yes, it's that good. I'm mighty glad I lucked on to this CD. For one thing, it's going to make Christmas shopping a whole lot easier this year."

"a friend of mine in Boston sent me a tape of this and it blew me away. I had to have the CD, which I finally had to order special. They kind of reminded me of the Beatles, if the Beatles were still around. One of the songs, "Be a window", made me cry, even though its such a happy song. (a couple of there songs are like that) All of the songs have so much meaning, and the guys sing like angels. I hope they put out another one soon. This band rules!!!"
A wonder of Indie Production!

"It's almost impossible to believe that this band recorded this disc on consumer-grade recording equipment and got the rich, polished sound that they did, but it's true. Luckily, the songs are just as finely honed, showcasing the diversity of three strong writers and four lead singers while maintaining a coherent and enjoyable sound. If the music industry has any sense of talent you should be hearing much more form these guys soon--Order it if you can handle the (eventually rewarding) wait."
