CD Reviews

Amazingly Good...
MMF | in a field | 08/05/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"It's truly not often that I buy a cd with high expectations and have them totally surpassed. Before owning this first full length I only had been able to find two EP imports from Sporto Kantes which were both very impressive, but now...I am even further blown away. Literally every track is unique and spectacular. Sporto Kantes is one of the rare (dare I say "downtempo"?) groups that actually have something new and interesting...with a funky and sample heavy sound, each song still carries a melody. At the moment it is the only thing I am listening to, and for any fan of electronic music slightly on the fringe, this is definitely worth further investigation. If I could give it more stars I would..."
Very cool

"This is a great CD to put on and take in all in one big go. It has the feel of something somewhere between DJ Shadow, and DJ Krush, just to give you an idea, but really Sporto has their own thing going on. There are many styles of music, from hip-hop, to an acid jazzy style, to keep the album from being too monotonous."
I know i like it

"But sometimes I wonder about...a certian drifting from the idea in the background. Do you ever have that when you're real cool at school and everything that comes out of your mouth is like butter? and everybody's diggin' it the way you're distributing it. but then for one second, your voice changes. just falters a little to make people wonder just what's going on up there. that's what this disc does to me. maybe that was the idea they were going after...the music is werid enough for me to notice the question, but cool enough for me to not answer it. why bother? life is too short. who am i to judge?"
