CD Reviews

Another stunning album from the Beard!
Sakos | United States | 11/20/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Kindness of Strangers is Spock's Beard third album and is another dazzling colleciton of genius Neal Morse's amazing songwriting and then band's specactular instrumental and vocal wizardry.

It begins with the epic The Good Don't Last, which grabs you and doesn't let go for every minute. It's followed by a collection of shorter, yet no less excellent songs: the rockin' In the Mouth of Madness and the superb Cakewalk on Easy Street, which has some really humorous lyrics (read Neal Morse's liner notes in this special edition to find out what they're about). June is an absolutely GORGEOUS acoustic-based number with incredible 3-part harmony vocals, and Strange World is another solid rocker. The album finished with 2 more epics, the 11 minute Harm's Way and the phenomenal Flow, which is nearly 17 minutes of absolute prog genius. The band go from section to section, each with it's own emotion and character. Interesting to note from the liner notes Neal Morse wrote the last section of the song when he was 17 and revived it for this album.....when I go back to the songs I wrote when I was 17 compared to what I write now, it's embarassing (with a few exceptions).

This is another unreal SB album...this band can do no wrong! Also, make sure you get this special edition...the remastered sound has to be heard to be believed (same with the special editions of their first two albums)."
