Synopsis

Product Description
It s The Spike Jones Show...on radio! 2 sitcom pilots starring Spike and The City Slickers, to be exact, recorded in November 1945 for NBC in front of a live studio audience. The series, written by Charlie Isaacs (writer for Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Groucho Marx, Edgar Bergen), centered on Spike s Sugar n Spice and Everything Nice Malt Shop on the campus of Sub Normal-Normal, their Matter Alma. Slickers Carl Grayson and Red Ingle played the roles of Professor Thaddeus Q. Derri-Berry and Red Bagel, the football hero, while actresses Ann Rutherford (Hardy Boys) played the romantic interest and Mabel Todd (Hollywood Hotel) played a man-chasing character who hung out at the malt shop. But it s not all yuks...there s some music, too, though differentiating the music from the laughs is tough with this bunch! The Slickers perform their hits Hotcha Cornya; Chloe; Holiday for Strings, and Cocktails for Two, plus the shows also feature a much larger orchestra performing exciting arrangements of Liza (All the Clouds ll Roll Away) and Crazy Rhythm. This Collectors Choice Music exclusive comes straight from The Estate of Spike Jones, with sparkling remastering by Leslie Ann Jones. Sublimely insane!
