CD Reviews

"Space: 1999" in name only...
Mark Savary | Seattle, WA | 12/18/2000
(2 out of 5 stars)

"This little item from Spain is probably not what you're thinking. If you're like me, you probably thought, "Hey, cool! A dance version of the "Space: 1999" theme or something. Well, that's novel, at least, so I'll buy it!"Unfortunately, this is not a variation on the signature tune of Year One or Year Two of "Space: 1999". Rather, it is a few cuts of Spanish industrial goth rock. A snippet of Barry Gray's Year One incidental music preceeds the first cut, and closes the last cut. Moreover, unless you can understand Spanish, then like me, you will never be sure that the CD actually has anything to do with Moonbase Alpha (I blame only myself here, since it says flat out that the first cut is titled "Espacio: 1999").Since this kind of music isn't really my cup of tea, I'm out of luck twice. As far as I can tell, musically the work is competent for its genre, but I doubt it will get played much on my CD player. If you like this kind of music, then understanding the words is not going to be important (we ARE talking about Spanish industrial goth rock, here!). However, if you are a fan of the classic sci-fi series, this will probably be a disappointing purchase... unless you understand Spanish. In which case, the artist may actually be yelling about a nuclear accident on the dark side of the Moon, and you will get more out of it than I did."

"This is a very misleading CD cover. I thought I was ordering music from the TV series. Terrible."
