CD Reviews

Buzzcocks? Undertones? Nope, it's the Soup Dragons.

"While some may be familiar with the Soup Dragons' later stuff (their cover of "Free" received quite a bit of airplay), their first album is an almost-undiscovered gem of blazing power pop, totally unlike anything else they recorded thereafter. Fans of the Buzzcocks and the Undertones will definitely not be disappointed. Trust me. In fact, the similarity to the Undertones is impossible to deny. So, while perhaps a little derivative (what isn't?), this is still great stuff. Most songs clock in at about 2 minutes, have fast tempos, and all feature great buzzsaw guitars. If you are familiar with their later stuff (more of a Manchester scene/Happy Mondays type vibe), you'd never guess they used to sound like this. Favorites include Hang Ten, Slow Things Down, and Whole Wild World."
Soup Dragons Deserve a Hang Ten!.

"I first encountered the Soup Dragons this summer. My good friend bought their tape of "Hang-Ten!" at the thrift store, and had never listened to it. One day, we decided it was time to unleash the magic. And magic it was. Words can not even explain the value that the Soup Dragons have bestowed upon music via this tape/cd. All I can say is, if you want proof, look at the song titles. Anything called "So Sad (I Feel)" is bound to be priceless. And they do not let down.

mmm...soupdragons are better than Campells."
