CD Reviews

A Bootleg mix of the Radio Soulwax series from Belgium radio

(3 out of 5 stars)

"...I'm surprised Amazon even sells these (ripped) discs.

This goes for ALL the bootleg discs. As Heard On... volumes 1 & 3-10 and the Hang the DJ's 1-5. They are all compilations of the radio shows. And the 50,000,000 Soulwax Fans Can't Be Wrong bootleg is actually the BBC Radio 1 Essential mix from Jan 2005. Get these instead!!!

Vol 2, an official and superb mix, is named so not because it's part of a series, but for other reasons. Vol 1 is considered to be all the broadcasts from Belgium Radio and Vol 2 is the aformentioned disc. Plus 2 = 2 Many DJ's, 2 brothers, etc...

If you want to hear what these brothers can really do, find the actual radio broadcasts out there in 'Internet download' land...

While these mixes are okay, you can tell it was a shotty job by a half-rate bootlegger attemting to make an extra dime off the '2 Many DJ's' hype from a few years back. The mixes don't quite play seemless as the actual brother's mixes do. And they are full of audio segments trying to hide transitions between tracks...

I repeat, find the authentic and absolutely astounding radio broadcasts and stear clear of these half-arsed mixes. There are 31 (i believe) Radio Soulwax broadcasts out there, 0 - 30, plus many other live sets and a plethora of Soulwax goodies and remixes out there. Happy hunting...

Oh yeah, and a comment on the music! Grab everything you can from the rock band Soulwax and 2 Many DJ's! It's been rocking my ears for years, and just hasn't gotten old. These guys are definately top notch!"
