"With many groups, one can see a hint of where they'll be five years in the future based on their first album, and this album is no exception. The lyrics are mostly taken straight from the Bible (refreshing for Christians) but are innovatively used (refreshing for any creative person). The music as well, while not as innovative as their later material, would still have been decidedly fresh when the album first came out. In short, the beginnings of Soul Junk's distinctive (though still not easily definable) sound are on this album, though this is not their best work. If you haven't heard them yet, start with their newest material (such as 1956, their latest album at the time of this review), but if you are already familiar with them (and, of course, like them), 1951 will be an interesting addition to your music collection."
