"From Phyllis Weismann:

Charles Williams and Tom Teasley have collaborated on one great CD!

There are 9 selections on this truly eclectic CD that is different indeed. It is different in a very good way because it calls forth our listening and makes us think. There is always present an energy and a spirit as the lively musical accompaniment engulfs us.

The musical instruments are much varied and run the gamut from the familiar flute, trumpet, and sax, just to name a few. And, then there are the somewhat unfamiliar conch shell, djembe an African drum, riq an Egyptian tambourine and shakers that are varied rhythm instruments that, as the name implies, one shakes to make rhythmic musical sounds.

The vocals whether read or sung are splendid and easy to listen to throughout as they mesh so effortlessly with the instrumentals.

There are African-American spirituals as well as traditional South African folk music, an Angolan rowing song and an Egyptian Dervish song cleverly partnered with a well-known Israel folksong that nicely blends and really compliments the two countries and the cultural similarities. There is a fabulous percussion instrumental piece that stands alone and at the same time goes hand in hand with the rest. It is interlaced with vocal thought provoking yet timeless proverbs. And, last but by no means least, there is a modern poem from a Washington, D.C. poetess that is a tribute to the slave, Harriet Tubman. It is set to upbeat, jazzy, bluesy music and relates easily to anyone who has survived adversity.

All in all the vocals are outstanding and the music uplifting.

As far as I'm concerned music is very much the international language no matter its country of origin. It brings to us a deep appreciation of other civilizations and their peoples. It may even be a way to achieve peace.
