CD Reviews

A Musical Treasure
Dan | Boston, MA USA | 09/30/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This cd by Soraya is very unique . Soraya exhibits the extremely rare gift of writing her own songs in Spanish and English and also manages to play the guitar, mandolin, and violin on this beautiful collection. The songs are filled with passion, emotions, and memorable feelings. Her voice is unforgetable with songs ranging from Latin dance, romantic ballads, pop, and even a song with jazz feelings to it. The musicians aside from Soraya herself demonstrate immense talent, especially with Wiso Santiago one of the worlds best percussion players in the music world today. Cuerpo Y Alma, En Donde Estas?, When Did I Say That, and Dance of the Waiting should all get great airplay on radio stations everywhere. Soraya's music is inspirational and this cd is a Musical Treasure."
What a Performer!
Luis Hernandez | New York, New York, USA | 06/10/2000

"I just returned from a concert given by Soraya to a large crowd at the South Street Seaport here in New York City. Soraya, a Colombian born singer who has been up an coming these past few years is truly a star in every definition. Captivating, compelling, charming, and truly talented (she doesn't have to rely on any family's name nor a big behind like several Latin celebrities nowadays) Soraya blew me away! With not a single trace of an accent when she sang in English, Soraya reminded me of a Latina version of Jewel mixed with a little bit of Lisa Loeb. But unlike those two stars, Soraya is original. This album, her current, is one of the best I heard in years. She is a true performer in the way she acknowledges her audience and how she gives her appreciation to her amazing band. Hear my words, Soraya will make an impact where other stars of the so-called "Latin Boom" have not really been successful, and that is having a direct relationship with her audience. After the concert, she even took her time to speak to her fans and signed albums. To bring an example of how truly memorable Soraya is when she pointed to a member of an audience whom she met in Puerto Rico a few months ago. She was on a popular local show called "No Te Duermas," and a practical joke was played on her. She found a huge guitar on her side while interviewing her, opened it and found a naked guy in there. Remarking on what a small word it is, Soraya gave him recognition giving her such a humorous event. The album is a mixture of folk and popular music, and incorporates various music styles, from rock to a bit of classical. Overall, this artist and this album should not be missed by anyone.I guarantee that she will become a star very soon! Till then, experience what the music world will be talking about in the near future before they do."

"Soraya definately lives up to my expectations with every cd she releases. "Cuerpo Y Alma" is her third release, like her previous cd, Soraya keeps innovating her music, yet she continues to amaze with her beautifully written songs and touching music. A first for Soraya, here she added four tracks in English: Half, When Did I Say That?, Need To Be Found, and Dance Of The Waiting. A Fifth, titled "You And I" is a Spanish song, "You And I" being the only phrase sung in English. Due to this, I believe, Soraya did not release an English version of this cd as she did with her first two cds. However, the English songs are amazing, "When Did I Say That?" is a fun song to listen to, and "Need To Be Found" is exceptional. "Amigo Mio," "Despues De Amar Asi," "Tu Amor, Mi Amor" and "En Donde Estas?" are those songs that trademark Soraya's style. Along with "Need To Be Found" these songs are those that you may find yourself repeating when you're feeling nostalgic. Soraya is a real talent, unlike some other so-called mainstream Columbian "diva." Soraya is one reason why I don't care for such awards as the grammys, real talent is always left out. Unfortunately Soraya wasn't able to promote "Cuerpo Y Alma," a few months after this cd was released she was diagnosed with breast cancer. However, as of today she is working on her next project, to be released in a couple of months. Truly, Soraya is an artist that gives her body and soul to every project she works on."
