Once a member of the obscure 1980s alternative rock group Hugo Largo, producer Hahn Rowe has now turned his interests to the exciting world of drum & bass under the name Somatic. As is typical of most jaded music-industry vets (he has also put in time with That Petrol Emotion, the Swans, and Michael Stipe) who stumble into the electronic-music field, the results are never that exciting. The New Body contains all the requisite analog and digital sounds as well as an impressive arsenal of rhythmscapes, but the songs simply lack any compelling emotional investment. --Aidin Vaziri

"cool sounds, nice beats, sort of drum and bass. a bit trancey. but the disc on the whole seems too homogeneous for my tastes. the songs upon close inspection are all quite different, but when you listen to the whole package at once, at the end you're under the impression it's all sort of samey."
