Synopsis

Product Description
Snow & Voices new album What the Body Was Made For revolves around the songs of Lauri Kranz and Jebin Bruni. Lauri and Jebin's roots go back to 2000, when they began collaborating on songs for Lauri's first solo project. They realized early they shared a similar sonic perspective and a common idea about where a song could take you. Those sessions led to a series of live shows around Los Angeles and the release of Lauri s debut solo album, How to Disappear, which Jebin produced. The album was recorded at Sonora Recorders with a group of friends that had been playing live with Lauri for some time, including drummer Ric Menck . After the release of Lauri's second solo record, All This Time We Could Have Been Friends, Lauri, Jebin and Ric started talking about new directions to take the music in. In the fall of 2004, they got a chance to put these ideas to the test when their friend Jeffrey Cain offered them the use of his studio SoundIsidore. On the day they were to begin recording, their engineer cancelled on them, and Jeffrey fortunately got Darrell Thorp to fill in. Darrell's sensibility, in sync with what the three were trying to achieve, enhanced their work immeasurably, and was a crucial ingredient to the sound they created. The album features Lauri's vocals, Ric on drums and Jebin on the piano or keyboards (some of which were actually held together with duct tape). Musical contributions were also made by Greg Leisz, Buddy Judge and Jeffrey Cain himself. With the recording completed, Lauri felt that this experience was more like a band collaboration then a solo endeavor and thus Snow & Voices came to be. Co-produced by Jebin and Darrell, Snow & Voices self-titled debut was released in July 2005 on Ric Menck's Bird Song Recordings. Snow & Voices united again in 2007, and true to form a new creative direction drove the recording sessions. Each day, Lauri came into the studio (SoundIsidore again) with an acapella song - words and a melody that had been twirling around her head for some time. Jebin then began composing music to fit, giving it form and shape and generally trying to make sense of it all. Darrell, who Lauri and Jebin like to refer to as the architect (despite Karl Rove sharing the moniker) began twiddling the knobs - and suddenly a defined sonic landscape would emerge. Later, more friends joined in the studio, including Joshua Grange and Jeffrey Cain on guitars, Ric Menck on drums, Vanessa Freebairn-Smith on cello, and Jay Bellerose and Joey Waronker on percussion. Once again, Jebin and Darrell shared production duties. Snow & Voices second album, What The Body Was Made For is being released on their own label, Elastic Ruby, on July 1, 2008
