Smoky Dawson is considered Australia's first cowboy & pioneer of country music. Smoky served in the first Australian Entertainment unit during World War II. When he returned from Borneo following illness, he began The Adventures of Smoky Dawson radio show. He received an MBE in 1978, and was included on the Australian Country Music Roll of Renown for his services to country music and in 2005 he was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. He was also recognised in the USA when he was awarded the Honour Award of the Grand Ole Opry and the American Country Music Association in Nashville.
