The Longest Barrel Ride/Self Titled Album 2 CD Set
A. Reed | 07/22/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I don't know what the track listing that Amazon offers is of, but this is a 2 CD set that includes Slightly Stoopid's original self titled album (the original pressing of which is extremely rare to come by) and the classic `Longest Barrel Ride' album. The self titled album shows the band in their early, rawest form. It is a 14 track CD primarily consisting of straight punk rock songs with touches of reggae and hip-hop here and there. Overall, it's a decent punk CD with above average bass work.

The real gem is the `Longest Barrel Ride', which is the album where Slightly Stoopid really balanced the sounds of punk/reggae/hip-hop together creating their distinct Southern California sound. Although Sublime influences are prominent throughout the album, Slightly Stoopid definitely has their own sound and style. `The Longest Barrel Ride' still maintains much of the rawness of the Self Titled album that I think gives the music an edge that their newer stuff lacks. They still play the songs found on these two albums at their live show which are absolutely awesome (You can download some of their live stuff at sublimearchive.com)

Just listen to songs like `Castles Made of Sand' and `Music Man' and you will see that they are not a lesser Sublime but a band with a style of their own and deserve to be recognized for it.

Good CD but might not get what you expect.......

"As you can see this cd is SUPPOSE to include the "Bonus Disk" but when I received it, it did not include it and was the original CD. I called Amazon and they said that they would send me another, I tried to explain to the guy on the phone the situation that there was a mix up and that I wanted to make sure I didn't get the same CD, I even wrote an email explaining that I did not want to get the same CD and that the sticker on the CD from Amazon said that it was "the longest barrell ride with Bonus Disk", but it was marked incorrectly. And of course as I thought I got the same fricken thing. I called up mad this time and the lady was very nice and actually understood the mix up unlike the 1st guy. She explained to me that she could send another one but not sure if it would be right because there was no way she could contact the warehouse where the product was being shipped from, which I really couldn't understand why. I think she said they would change the wording on the item description because they must not have the cd, but of course it is still listed, so in the end I got the CD for free which was nice but I still wanted the bonus disk. So expect a good CD but just don't be expecting a bonus disk.

Other than all this other drama, its a great CD!
