Synopsis

After releasing its fierce, unrelenting debut Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame in 1992, Texas band Skrew looked set to revamp the face of industrial metal. Then co-writer Danny Lohner took off to join Nine Inch Nails, and the band floundered, releasing two disappointing records that had plenty of pound, but no real purpose. But with its fourth disc, Angel Seed XXIII, Skrew has steered back onto the right track. Instead of building songs around feral guitar blasts and monochromatic electro-beats, the band now alternates textures and tempos, augmenting its sound with a live drummer, and a sparser, but more effective arsenal of samples. --Jon Wiederhorn

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Open Up - really heavy. Excellent opener. Lyrics would be heplful on this and a few other songs.Sea Man - Begin to show their industrial side with calm verses and a relentless chorus beat.Seventh Eye - Rorschach Test style industrialism. It barely gets better than this for a MetalHead.King of the Hole - A mass of choppy chaotic guitars.Porcelain - This is the weakest song on the album. It's long and has no really heavy stuff.Kosmo's Seed - Sounds like Manson only about 5X heavier. My second favorite song on this album.Sputnik - Another heavy one that has an interlude then continues the insanity.Angel Suck - Noise industrial. Pretty good stuff.Lorsey (Man) - loud - need lyrics.Slip - Quietest piece, but it holds it's own power lyrically.#11 (untitled) - Upbeat and quite melodic unlike some of the heavier songs."
