CD Reviews

Nice
Kenneth M. Goodman | Cleveland, Ohio United States | 08/23/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Whereas most of the classic Skatalite CDs

present Studio One recordings, this new

collection concentrates on Duke Reid productions,

with just a few Studio One tracks.

The result is ska-tasty. CD 2 gives you the

hard ska; and CD 1 features earlier, primal

recordings evolving TO ska. I'd recommend

playing CD 2 first, then CD 1. Jot down the

tracks you like best for future programming...

and you're set!"

"If you are looking for the living definition of ska, look no further. Still going strong today, this is the original group from their inception to when they first broke up. All the classics are here as well as some rare stuff, but it's all sublime. Five stars is not nearly enough!"
