Synopsis

Album Description
New recordings! In 1883, Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924) was appointed Professor of Composition at the newly-founded Royal College of Music, where he had an unique influence on several generations of British composers. But he was an also an important composer, although his conservative music has been neglected due to critical snobbery. Stanford published four concertos, but left another five, none of which have previously been heard, including the early Cello Concerto recorded here. The Third Piano Concerto, of 1919, survives in a two-piano score that composer Geoffrey Bush (1921-1998) has orchestrated specially for this recording.
