Synopsis

Album Description
Although most widely known today as the composer of the celebrated "Adagio" (actually an arrangement by another composer), Albinoni published ten collections of instrumental music as well as symphonies, ballets, sonatas, concertos and other works. The Opus 2 collection was first published in 1700 in Venice and was highly successful. Further printings followed at home and abroad. The pieces are arranged alternately as sonatas (called "symphonies") followed by concertos, and back again, although there is no obvious musical link between them. It just seems to be an arrangement Albinoni found in Torelli?s Op. 5, and liked. Albinoni came from a wealthy family and wrote music for relaxation; thus he has always been considered an "amateur"; and yet Quantz ranked him alongside Vivaldi as the father of the definitive concerto form after it was popularized by Torelli and Corelli.
